The Department of Respiratory - Allergy and Clinical Immunology operates the Precision Medicinal Lung Cancer Center that pursues personalized treatment based on the liquid biopsy technology, and the one-stop Asthma/COPD Center, where same-day diagnosis, examination, treatment, and education at eye level with the patient are offered. Furthermore, we provide diagnosis and treatment of various respiratory diseases (e.g., pneumonia, tuberculosis, non-TB mycobacterium lung diseases, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary embolism, pneumothorax, and pleural effusion fluid).
Through the establishment of the liquid biopsy lab in October 2016, the Precision Medicine Lung Cancer Center has been maximizing the synergy with traditional genome testing, which analyzes the samples based on tissue biopsy, and conducting various innovative clinical research.
The Asthma/COPD Center specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of the recently rapid onset of bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) due to the aging population and the causes of the changes in the environment, such as smoking and air pollution. We also operate a one-stop chronic airway disease clinic, which offers same-day diagnosis, testing, and treatment, as well as patient education.
Professor Lee Gyeyoung is the director of Precision Medicine Lung Cancer Center and the chairman of the Korean Association for Lung Cancer. He is committed to the early diagnosis and treatment research of lung cancer based on his expertise in the lung cancer field. He was selected by an overseas pharmaceutical company for the research grant program due to his research on a biomarker development study that he has developed in identifying mutated genes via the next generation sequencing (NGS) of the genetic information on endoplasmic reticulum (exosomes).
Professor Yoo Gwangha is the director of the Asthma/COPD Center. He specializes in chronic airway diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchial asthma. Since 2016, he has been implementing a study about tracking the characteristics of the diseases for early COPD discovery and exacerbation prevention nationwide, which is an academic research project organized by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As the senior researcher of the establishment of the integrated registry for domestic COPD research in 2018, he has been working on the disease treatment and the development of intervention research techniques on disease progression and acute exacerbation of COPD patients.
Professor Kim Soonjong is the head of the ICU. He specializes in the treatment of ICU patients, pulmonary tuberculosis, and pneumonia. In addition, he is fully committed to the research and treatment of acute respiratory failure. Professor Kim Heejung specializes on the treatment of lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and interstitial lung disease. She is actively conducting research as a member of the target therapy society of the Korean Association for Lung Cancer and the interstitial lung disease research group of the Korean Academy of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases.
We promise that each patient will receive the highest level of care by the medical professionals in each field of respiratory diseases based on the latest research.
