KUMC Colorectal Cancer Center is composed of skilled specialists for the treatment of colorectal cancer. Professor Hwang Daeyong is the director of the Department of Surgery, which consists of several faculty members and dedicated nurses in the field of colorectal cancer.
The staff includes the surgical staff specializing in colorectal cancer surgery, preoperative and postoperative treatment and medication, and the surgical staff (hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, and orthopedic surgery) specializing in metastatic colorectal cancer operations (e.g., liver metastases, lung metastases, ovarian metastases, brain metastases, bone metastases, etc.). Meanwhile, the medical team consists of the staff from departments related to colorectal cancer, including gastroenterologists for the diagnosis of colon cancer and endoscopic procedures for early colon cancer, radiologists for the progression of the disease via before and after treatment images, nuclear medicine staff for the progression analysis of the colorectal cancer through PET, radiation oncologists for radiation treatment, oncologist for the investigation of new clinical trials, pathologists for the accurate diagnosis through surgically removed tissues, including cancer tissues, and laboratory medicine staff for the genetic tests on blood.
Outpatient nurses, chemotherapy nurses, medication guidance pharmacists, ostomy and wound nurses, as well as nutritionists for nutrition counseling will also assist patients with their treatment.
Every four years, KUMC Colorectal Cancer Center holds a public health lecture in order to educate colon cancer patients and to have a Q&A time. We are also managing the "Colorectal Cancer Cyber Clinic" on the Internet and "KUMC Colorectal Cancer Center" at Naver Cafe to communicate with patients, their families, and the general public, who are interested in knowing about colorectal cancer.
