Shoulder and elbow joints are the joints with the greatest range of motion in the body, so a variety of diseases can appear. KUMC Shoulder and Elbow Joint Center provides advanced medical services with the best medical staff, and offers accurate diagnosis for both non-surgical and surgical treatments.
In recent years, the number of shoulder and elbow joint diseases increased along with the country's sports and physical population. Statistically, about 7% of the whole population have shoulder disease, and about 60% of adults experienced shoulder pain more than once, which is similar to the frequency of back pain.
Shoulder and elbow diseases are often mistaken for temporary symptoms from excessive work or exercise; however, they should be accompanied by accurate testing and treatment.
In order to inform the public about the common diseases and treatments of the shoulder joints, the 1st Shoulder Joint Day was declared on March 24, 2011 and sponsored by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. In line with this, KUMC opened the first Shoulder and Elbow Joint Center in Korea. We have the best medical staff composed of experts in each field, state-of-the-art facilities, and a medical care system that can operate them effectively.
Professors Lee Seungjoon, Oh Kyungsoo, and Jung Seokwon are leading the orthopedic surgery. We are aiming to provide a more professional and systematic medical system, and promote patient convenience through systematic cooperation with the radiology medical staff in charge of conducting and reading imaging tests (e.g., three-dimensional computed tomography [3D CT], computed tomography arthrography [CTA], magnetic resonance imaging [MRI], magnetic resonance arthrography [MRA], and ultrasonography [US]), and the rehabilitation medicine staff in charge of electromyography, electroneurography, thermodiagnosis, and exercise rehabilitation for a more accurate diagnosis.
