The Department of Neurology at KUMC is focused on providing better treatment by operating specialized clinics (e.g., dementia clinic, stroke clinic, and peripheral nerve and muscle disease clinic) and special laboratories (e.g., neuropsychological laboratory, electroencephalography [EEG] laboratory, cerebral blood flow [CBF] laboratory, electromyogram [EMG] laboratory, and evoked potential laboratory). Neurology covers the following diseases and symptoms.

* Dementia: We provide diagnosis and treatment of dementia and memory disorders, which are becoming population aging issues of our society.

* Epilepsy: We determine the causes of convulsive seizures with recurrent loss of consciousness and limb convulsions before we provide the appropriate treatment for the patient.

* Stroke: We provide treatment and preventive measures for hemiparalysis and speech disorders caused by cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage.

* Movement Disorder: We determine the type of movement disorder (e.g., Parkinson's disease) prior to treatment.

* Peripheral Nerve and Muscle Diseases: We identify the causes of hand and foot numbness, muscular weakness, muscle atrophy, facial palsy, and drooped eyelids prior to treatment.

* Headaches: We determine the cause of the headaches before we provide the appropriate treatment for the patient. Based on research, a common headache may be an early sign of a brain disorder.

* Sleep Disorders: We provide diagnosis and treatment of insomnia, narcolepsy, excessive sleepiness during the day, and sleep apnea.

* Dizziness: We identify and treat the cause of dizziness because the complex function of the nervous system is crucial for equilibrioception. 

* Inflammation of the Nervous System: We provide diagnosis and treatment of cerebromeningitis and encephalitis, which are accompanied by high fever, headache, and vomiting.

* Others: We are also providing diagnosis and treatment of neuralgia, multiple sclerosis, and congenital or hereditary neurological disorders.
