Rehabilitation medicine is the health care specialties focused on restoring the health and functional abilities of disabled patients after acute illness or injury such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, joint replacement, sports injuries or musculoskeletal pain. Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation involves optimizing function in those afflicted with heart or lung diseases. In addition, Electrodiagnostics are used to diagnose and provide prognosis for various neuromuscular disorders or injuries. The major concern of our field is the ability of the person to function optimally within the limitations and the optimization of the quality of life for the patients. Emphasis is placed on the functional improvements through the combined approaches of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and cognitive therapy as well as medications, physical modalities, or interventional procedures. A team approach is emphasized, using transdisciplinary team meeting to coordinate care of the patients.
